I think that we need to start changing society’s view of science and scientists from in schools. Schools and scientists need to work together, I’m a Scientist is a great start. I also think the media has a big part to play, as this is where most people get their scientific information. The media needs to stop making one sided reports and taking research out of context.

Yeah I agree. I think scientists should do more to communicate their research in an understandable way. Also, it would be good if part of the school curriculum was about understanding science. This is so important when you consider how much science effects our lives.

I think the public needs to know more about what goes on in science as I believe the media only tells the public half the story. But it is also the scientists fault as they rarely make the effort to try and communicate their science to the public in a way that everyone could understand.

I particularly find it very frustrating when the media talks about heart problems and healthy diets and fat consumption, most of the stories in the news try to scare the public. But they only tell half the story. Some fats are actually good for you and are needed; exercise is not the major cure for obesity; and the information on the heart is usually very poor and misleading.

So I think that both scientists and the public should make more of an effort to communicate about what goes on in science.
