Yes there is but not any time soon. The Sun that we see every day is getting bigger but only by tiny amounts. But as it gets bigger it will start heating up the planets that are around it, and soon it will get so big it will destroy earth.

The time estimated for this to happen is in around 4,000,000,000 years time (4 billion years).

Arr enough time for us to finish I’m a scientist then!

There is I believe yes, but I’m afraid I’m not the best person to answer the question… but… there are some very clever people (and computers) placed all over the world, that do try to calculate when it will happen. They do a lot of maths and physics!

It generally revolves around the life of our star (the sun), which physics and maths tells us will eventually get so close to our planet, it’ll be impossible for us to survive. We’re talking well beyond Burger King flame grilling 🙂

Other than that, an asteroid may hit us before the sun gets us (but we’ve always got Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck to call on).

Try looking up some of the international astronomy research centres and societies online. Even if you don’t find anything directly discussing that topic, you’ll probably come across some amazing information.

Make sure you search for astronomy, and not astrology. Otherwise, you might just come across some bloke who was on Strictly Come Dancing. He can’t help you either 🙂
