      Hello.

      You tend to see athletes who suffer with muscle cramp will try to stretch that particular muscle. So, we’re talking the same position as the normal calf stretches you might typically perform against a wall (or whilst free standing). The leg with the calf that is stretched is kept straight and behind you, with the leading leg bent.

      You’ll often see in team sports a team mate will help someone stretch, because it can be very painful and they need a little assistance.

      However, stretching isn’t known, 100%, to relieve muscle cramps. This is because the precise cause of cramp is still unknown. They have very good ideas, and it likely lies in chemicals in the blood at the muscle site. Stretching might not necessarily help a great deal. Still if it feels like it’s helping, there’s likely no harm in doing it.
