Tsunamis are made by earthquakes that happen near water. If there was a big enough earthquake and a massive tsunami was produced then it could engulf quite a large part of a state if not all of it. But thankfully the largest tsunami every recorded was 60 years ago and reached 524 meters high. That’s over half a kilometer!
