Water has a relaxing effect on some women when they are giving birth and some women decide to have their babies delivered in the water. The baby isn’t left under the water for very long and once the ambilical cord and placenta are still attached the baby will get some oxygen from the mother. Also, babies have an amazing temporary reflex where they hold their breath when under water. This is how you get those amazing pictures of babies under water.
