Umm probably you would want to take on quite a bit of carbohydrate I.e. pasta and rice a few day before an event. This allows you to store extra carbohydrate in your muscles and liver before exercising. Also resent research recommends drinking beetroot juice for two days prior to exercise. Beetroot increases the amount of a molecule called nitric oxide in your body. Nitric oxide then increases blood flow to your muscles and possibly improves performance. Caffeine has also been shown to increase performance so a couple of espressos would go down quite nicely just before the event.
